| Overview |
For 2012, changes to the Toyota Tacoma are in trim. A new grille, headlamps, hood and bumpers bring its styling in line with the company’s SUVs. Interior changes include a new steering wheel, shift knob, all-season floor mats, folding rear-seat head restraints and new interior door trim. All models receive an upgraded stereo and the 4×4 models add several new interior features.
The Tacoma is available in several configurations. A 2.7-litre four-cylinder engine is available in the Access Cab in two- or four-wheel drive, with a five-speed manual or optional four-speed automatic transmission.
A 4.0-litre V6 is available in the Access Cab in 4×4 configuration, with six-speed manual or optional five-speed automatic. It is also the only engine available in the Double Cab, in 4×4 only, where it comes with the six-speed manual or five-speed automatic.
The Access Cab features small, rear-hinged back doors that can only be operated when the front doors are open; the Double Cab uses four independently-opening doors. The Access Cab uses a six-foot box; the Double Cab comes with a five-foot or six-foot box. All of them are double-walled and made of composite material, and include a removable tailgate and tie-downs.
Features on the Access Cab 4×2 I4 include 15-inch steel wheels, air conditioning, CD/MP3 stereo with auxiliary input, cloth seats, rear seat foldable cushions, power locks, auto driver’s-down window, passenger vanity mirror, tilt and telescopic steering wheel, front centre console box, map lights, all-season floor mats, digital clock, active front head restraints, front tow hook, manually-adjustable mirrors, rear step bumper, rear splash guards, removable tailgate, cargo bed tie-downs, and two-speed wipers with mist feature.
The Access Cab 4×4 I4 adds 16-inch steel wheels.
The Access Cab 4×4 V6 adds sliding rear window, rear privacy glass, cruise control and keyless entry.
The Double Cab models add driver’s lumbar support, rear seat heater ducts, folding front passenger seat, and 60/40 fold-down rear seat.
