| Overview |
For 2012, the Ford Mustang undergoes several changes, including the introduction of the Boss 302 coupe with high-output 5.0-litre V8. The trim levels have been changed, with the coupe now available as the V6, V6 Premium with Performance, Pony or Mustang Club Package, and GT. The convertible comes as the V6 with Premium Pony or Mustang Club Package, and GT. Selectable electric power-assist steering with Comfort, Sport and Normal settings is now standard on all models.
New packages are available. The V6 Performance Package adds a strut tower brace, larger sway bars, unique front springs and calipers, Performance Friction brake pads, 19-inch painted aluminum wheels with Z-rated tires, unique stability control calibration, high-gloss black mirror skull caps, unique engine cover and tire mobility kit. The Mustang Club of America Special Edition, available on the V6 Premium coupe and convertible, adds painted dark stainless billet grille with tri-bar pony badge, front lower fascia-mounted fog lamps, unique side and deck lid tape, 18-inch grey metallic painted aluminum wheels, premium floor mats with pony logo, automatic headlamps and deck lid spoiler.
The Boss 302 Laguna Seca package deletes the rear seat and adds brake cooling ducts, front air splitter, 3.73:1 axle, gauge package, unique rear springs and sway bar, 19-inch painted aluminum wheels with dry weather race compound tires, Recaro sport seats and unique badging.
The Mustang is available as a coupe or convertible. The V6 uses a 3.7-litre V6 with six-speed manual or optional six-speed automatic. The GT uses a 5.0-litre V8 with six-speed manual or optional six-speed automatic. The Shelby GT500 comes as a coupe or convertible, and uses a supercharged 5.4-litre V8 with six-speed manual, while the Boss 302 uses a high-output 5.0-litre with six-speed manual and is only available as a coupe.
Features on the V6 coupe include 17-inch alloy wheels, air conditioning, CD/MP3 stereo with auxiliary input, floor mats, cruise control, full centre floor console with locking storage, Ice Blue lighting, message centre, cloth seats, 50/50 split-folding rear seat, keyless entry, auto up/down windows, dual illuminated vanity mirrors, tilt steering wheel, LED taillamps, variable intermittent wipers, illuminated entry, MyKey owner controls feature, tire pressure monitoring system, and power mirrors.
The V6 Premium models add pinstriping, body-colour mirrors, power driver’s seat, automatic headlamps, and fog lamps along with their respective packages.
The V6 Premium with Pony Package adds 18-inch polished aluminum wheels, chrome instrument cluster accents, floor mats with Pony logo, premium stereo, integrated blind spot mirrors, lower body side tape stripe, rear spoiler, and satin chrome grille.
The V6 Premium with Mustang Club of American Special Edition builds on the V6 Premium and adds 18-inch Sterling Grey metallic aluminum wheels, automatic headlamps, premium floor mats, dark stainless-painted billet-style grille, deck lid tape appliqué, lower fascia-mounted fog lamps, rear spoiler and unique body side satin-black tape stripes.
The V6 Premium with Performance Package builds on the V6 Premium and adds 19-inch alloy wheels, GT Coupe suspension, strut tower brace, tire mobility kit, unique electronic stability control tuning, unique engine cover, and gloss black mirrors with integrated blind spot mirror.
The GT builds on the V6 Premium features and adds 18-inch wide-spoke alloy wheels, six-way power driver’s seat, leather-trimmed heated seats, six-gauge cluster with MyColor illumination, ambient lighting, auto-dimming rearview mirror, bright aluminum interior accents, SYNC connectivity, leather-wrapped steering wheel with aluminum spokes, Shaker 500 audio system, Sirius satellite radio, garage door opener, vinyl door trim panel inserts, automatic headlamps, integrated blind spot mirrors, dark-chrome Pony badge in grille, dual bright rolled exhaust tips, fog lamps and rear spoiler.
The Boss 302 builds on the GT and adds 19-inch black-painted alloy wheels, 3.73:1 gear ratio with limited-slip differential, five-setting adjustable shocks and struts, Brembo four-piston front calipers with 14-inch vented front rotors and 11.8-inch vented rear rotors with high-performance pad compound, quad exhaust, unique intake manifold with production number plate, embroidered charcoal black cloth seats with manual adjustment, Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel, cue ball-style shifter, dark aluminum instrument panel appliqué, unique gauge cluster, black spoiler and deck lid stripe, grille with blocked-off fog lamp openings, modified front fascia with lower chin splitter, and unique black or white hood and side stripes with matching painted roof.
The Shelby GT500 builds on the GT and adds 19-inch alloy wheels, Cobra badge, unique aluminum power dome hood, unique front and rear fascias, xenon headlamps, rear diffuser and deck lid spoiler, and racing stripes.
